We had a fantastic night at our End of Season Awards event. It was a great success and a fitting celebration of an amazing season for the club. Great venue, great weather, great company, great vibes, great raffle, great drinks and (mostly ) great entertainment!
It was brilliant to see the whole club come together to celebrate as a community. Across our Juniors, Seniors, Veterans, National League teams, Over 50s and Disability Group we have so much to be proud of this season – and so much to look forward to next season.
Head to our Facebook page to see more photos and write-ups of the various award winners.
We are delighted to announce that our star junior player Shannon Brown has been selected by Table Tennis Scotland to represent her country in the European Table Tennis Union Youth Championships in Malmo, Sweden this July.
Shannon will represent Scotland as part of the Junior Girls Team alongside Megan Mulhern and Amelia Smolarek from Drumchapel Table Tennis Club. Together they will face the top Junior Girls from across Europe in Team, Singles and Doubles events. This is a huge accolade for Shannon and richly deserved for all her hard work as she’s battled back to full fitness over the last 18 months.
Thanks to our club sponsors Your MoveFusion Renewables LtdGenesis OHSTees Sport for all their support, and club members and supporters can help Shannon with their own sponsorship donations to help fund her travel, accommodation, sustenance, equipment, and pre-tournament preparation. Click this link to donate via GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/8729e367. Every little helps to cover costs and allow Shannon to concentrate on performing at her peak.
These are the final standings across the three divisions for the Your Move Dumfries Table Tennis League 2023-24.
Massive congratulations to our newly crowned champions of Division 1, Gaulty Towers, for a tremendous season in winning the league by 19 points. Hot on their heels next season will surely be Top Bananas looking to regain their title, who unfortunately had to withdraw from the league this season due to injuries. The race for 2nd place was bitterly contested and in the end only 3 points separated 2nd to 4th place! Well done to Smashing Pumpkins for finishing runner-ups and indeed to Shannon Brown as the leading individual average.
Table Toppers’ Anne Borrowdale and Jim Hutchinson lived up to their team name in Division 2 by capturing the title, although they were pushed to the limit by Two Slips and a Gully – a great performance from the young duo Corey Dawson and Isaac Ishmael in their debut season. Unfortunately injuries plagued a number of teams in Division 2 leading to a couple of early withdrawals – best wishes to them for a speedy recovery and we will hopefully see them next season! Well done to Anne for winning the averages with an impressive 94%.
Division 3 was dominated by the invincible Blade Runners, with Graeme and Finley Boyd remaining undefeated in competitive play all season. Olivia Maxwell and Boyd Telfer of Double Trouble finished the season solidly in 2nd place, and will take lots of encouragement from their debut season in the league.
Our Dumfries Table Tennis Club Awards and Social Evening 2024 will be held on Friday May 17 at Dumfries Sports Club. We’re looking forward to celebrating our 2024 Your Move Club Champs winners and toasting a fantastic year of table tennis.
We now have a solar panel and battery installation which will significantly cut our energy costs, generate some income, and help us move towards net zero. The array of 30 panels with 3 batteries was installed by Fusion Renewables Ltd, who are also our Junior sponsor.
A huge thank you to the CARES Let’s Do Net Zero Community Buildings Fund for a grant covering 80% of the cost, and for processing our application so speedily – 8 weeks from first enquiry to installation is something of a record! A big shout out to Kathleen Painter at CARES at Local Energy Scotland for all her help and advice, to Stuart Wallis at Table Tennis Scotland for starting us off on the journey, and of course to Fusion Renewables for doing a grand job.
