Happy group winners at our July Smash 2025

Our monthly ‘Smashes’ are fun, friendly social tournaments, open to members and non-members alike.

Players are put into groups of similar ability, and play a match against each of the other players in their group. Each match is 4 games (even if one player wins the first 3 games!), and each game is up to 11 points, even if it’s 10-10! At the end of the group, each player’s total points scored are added up, and the player with the most points is the winner. Every point counts, even in games you lose, and there are small trophies for the winners of each group.

Why not give it a go? Follow us on Facebook for news of the next Smash event, or sign up to our club email for all club news and events.

In Smash competitions, play begins at 19.15 and generally finishes by 21.15. The cost is only £3 per player.

Important additional information:
• The competition is organised by Dumfries Table Tennis Club.
• All ages 8+ welcome. Players aged between 8 – 14 should be accompanied by a parent/carer.
• The organisers will place players in the appropriate group for their level of play, based on the information available (including previous results and/or league form).
• A player arriving after 19.00 will forfeit their place unless they have notified the organiser in advance.
• To keep the competition fast-moving, with play finishing by 21.15, play must be continuous – “knock up” time before each match is limited to 1 minute.
• Each player must take turns scoring games in their group. Inexperienced players can be helped and taught how to score if needed.
• Players should follow normal service rules as far as possible. However service rules will not be strictly enforced for inexperienced and social players.
• Avoid wearing white tops as this makes the ball hard to see and wear soft-soled shoes.
• 3* 40+ balls will be provided. You may borrow a bat if you do not have your own.
• The organisers reserve the right to change the format if needed to ensure all players have a good level of play.
• The decision of the organisers is final on all matters. Any concerns should be taken up with the organisers on the night.
• Photographs are taken at these events. Please notify the organisers if you do not wish to be photographed.
• Results are published on Facebook following the competition.
